Weekend Box Office Report: September 28-30, 2012

The family friendly Hotel Transylvania (Sony/Columbia) topped the weekend box office and far outpaced its nearest competitor, the sci-fi thriller Looper (Sony/TriStar). Hotel Transylvania earned almost $43.0 million, more than doubling Looper's take of $20.8 million. The weekend's other new major release, Won't Back Down (Fox) was dead on arrival. The film earned a paltry $2.6 million in over 2,500 theaters, for an tenth place finish. In Contrast, Pitch Perfect (Universal), which opened in limited release, nabbed over $5.0 million, and landed in sixth place.
