The Final Season of "Gossip Girl" Begins Tonight on The CW

The opening scenes of the first two episodes of the sixth and final season of Gossip Girl appear to be revisiting the OMFG! theme. The racy and unexpected nature of those scenes may be a sign of things to come as the often buzz worthy series wraps up its long run this fall. The first of the final ten episodes airs tonight, at 9:00pm ET, on The CW.

After a rough send-off at the end of last season, Serena (Blake Lively) has gone missing. Even her mother, Lily (Kelly Rutherford), did not know she had disappeared. As a result, Dan (Penn Badgley), Blair (Leighton Meester), Chuck (Ed Westwick), Nate (Chace Crawford) and even Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) go searching for her. What they find surprises them and threatens to complicate their already strained relationships.

The final season also features new love interests for Nate and Chuck, as well as Rufus (Matthew Settle), who hooks up with someone completely unexpected. Meanwhile, Dan writes an exposé of the Upper East Side that, if published, may forever change his relationships with friends and family members. In addition, parental issues cause Blair and Chuck to rethink their plans and find some way to make peace between expectations and reality. Blair's situation becomes even more difficult when a person from her past resurfaces and threatens to cause her even more problems. Of course, Blair and Chuck are still struggling with their feelings for each other too, adding to their already stress filled lives.

Guest stars Barry Watson (7th Heaven) and Sofia Black-D'Elia (Skins) both play pivotal roles that impact the "gang of five" and have secrets of their own that may shock viewers. One of the highlights of the first two episodes, "Gone Maybe Gone" and "High Infidelity," are the exterior shoots, which are beautifully photographed. Since Gossip Girl is ending soon, I hope the series maintains its racy edge and shakes things up as much as possible so that the final episodes are truly memorable. Here are my ideas of how to wrap things up; Lily and Rufus get back together (once and for all), Chuck goes back to his old ways (for the most part, the females emasculate their male counterparts), Nate finally comes out of the closet and Dan reveals that he is Gossip Girl. No matter what happens, I will be watching and hoping for a scandalous wrap-up for these unforgettable characters.

xoxo
